Sewing tips for baking apron and baking gloves panel

What would Christmas be without baking? Well, I confess I don’t really bake myself – I don’t have the patience, but I know it’s the best part of Advent for many families.
So, just in time, here’s a cut and sew pattern for a 50cm long children’s baking apron with matching baking gloves.

But be careful! Even if the baking gloves are lined with thermal fleece, please never let the children take the hot baking trays out of the oven!

Materials required:

• 1 panel 50cm x 50cm – Christmas gnomes apron panel at Lillestoff
• approx. 260cm bias tape for the apron
• approx. 60 cm bias tape for the gloves
• Thermal fleece 60cm x 25 cm
• Sewing thread

How to sew the children’s apron:

• Cut out the pieces along the dotted lines.
• Fold the front pocket for the in apron half lengthwise, put the right sides together, and stitch along the edges leaving a turning opening.
• Turn the pocket inside out, place it in the centre of the apron front and top stitch close to the edge.
• Place the apron front and lining right sides together, and sew along the top, side and bottom edges. Leave the ‘armholes’ open.
• Trim the seam allowances at the curves.
• Turn the apron inside out and close the armholes with the bias tape. Leave about 50cm of bias overlap at the top and sides. The overlaps act as ties.

The apron is finished!

How to sew the baking gloves:

• Cut out the pieces along the dotted lines.
• Place the pieces right sides together. Include the thermal fleece on both sides of the inner parts.
• Sew the gloves together, leave the opening open.
• Slide an inner glove into an outer glove, wrong sides facing, and finish the opening with the bias tape.
• Leave a small loop for hanging at the end of the bias tape.

And you’re ready to start baking!
