Sewing tips for Advent calendars and Santa’s boots Cut and Sew Panel

Soon there will also be a 150cm x 150cm Cut and Sew Panel for a sewn Advent calendar made from small bags approx. 14cm x 18cm each and a lined Santa boot approx. 40cm x 28 cm with different motifs to match my fabric designs at Lillestoff.

The calendar and boot are quick and easy to sew:

Materials required:

• Panel 150cm x 150cm
• Ribbon to tie the bags approx. 480cm in total (20cm per bag)
• Padding for the boot 45cm x 60cm
• matching sewing thread
• approx. 45cm bias tape for the alternative version of the boot (see last point under sewing Santa boots)

Sewing the Advent calendar:

• Cut out the bags along the dotted lines.
• Finish the top edge either with zigzag scissors or with the machine and fold the edge inwards by 1 cm and topstitch.
• Fold the bags in half right sides together and pin a piece of ribbon folded in half into the seam so that you can tie the bags together later and hang them up.
• Stitch the seams together and turn the bags inside out.

They are now ready to be filled.

Sewing the Santa boot:

• Cut out the outer parts of the boot, the lining and the hanging loop.
• Fold the hanging loop inwards along the dotted lines, then fold the loop in half again along the length. Topstitch the edges tightly.
• Place the inner and outer boots right sides together each, and sew the padding and hanging loop into the seam of the outer boot.
• Sew the parts together, leaving a turning opening in the inner boot.
• Pull the outer boot, right sides together, over the lining and sew the parts together around top edge of the boot.
• Turn the boot inside out, close the turning opening and topstitch the top edge tightly.
• Alternatively, you can finish the top edge with bias tape in a matching colour. This will also eliminate the turning opening.

Ready for Santa!
