Nordic Breeze Dolphins Fabric Collection

I’ve created some new fabric designs for Mary n Max Lillestoff— the Nordic Breeze Dolphins collection—in very pastel shades and with understated patterns, which is rather unusual for me. But since it all fits perfectly with the Nordic Breeze theme, I just had to do it.

The ocean and its inhabitants are mysterious

I believe the ocean is incredible, wonderful, and mysterious, as I’ve already written about in my Stormy Waters collection. But I find the creatures of the sea even more beautiful and incredible. When you realize that there are mammals in the ocean that spend their entire lives swimming and diving, yet still have to return to the surface to breathe… even while they sleep. I don’t think I’d be able to sleep all night because I’d be afraid of drowning.
Although, apparently, only one half of a dolphin’s brain sleeps at a time—the other controls fin movement and also surfaces to take a breath.
When I think about what’s always going on in my head at night, I might even come to the conclusion that I’m perhaps half a dolphin, because my brain certainly isn’t completely asleep. Sometimes my brain even catches itself dreaming and then announces, “Ha, I knew it—this nonsense can only be a dream!” .

But I’m getting off track again—we were talking about dolphins.

Dolphins belong to the whale family that have teeth. Some really do have a beautiful row of sharp teeth—though not like sharks, whose teeth are arranged in multiple rows one behind the other, just waiting for the front one to fall out to make room for a new one—but getting bitten by a dolphin is probably still not much fun.
What I find particularly interesting is that dolphins apparently give each other names. In the case of the bottlenose dolphin—probably the best-known dolphin species—researchers have discovered that they call out to one another within their group using a precisely defined sequence of whistles specific to each individual, and the dolphin being addressed responds to the call. However, whether the dolphins call each other Hans-Peter or Marie-Louise in dolphin language, is probably impossible to find out.
