Stormy Waters Collection

The story behind the Stormy Waters collection.

Wild oceans or deep lakes appear in many of my stories, but they have rarely inspired me to create designs, yet they would provide a wealth of motifs.

The Stormy Waters collection is an exception to this rule. It reminds me of the vast, raging Nordic sea with its wild inhabitants in the deepest cold waters, but also of the calm after the storm, when the surface of the water smooths out a bit but never quite settles. Wherever I look, I see new details both on and under the water. The environment is constantly changing, and no one can predict what will happen next.

The mood leaves a sense of unpredictability and mystery that I would love to explore, whether in another story or perhaps in a few more designs to add to this collection.

Each design tells its own story. The “Wild Octopus” design shows the dance of these intelligent sea creatures in the stormy waves of the “Stormy Waves” design, while the “Gentle Moves” design shows the calm after the storm with small whitecaps on the water surface created by the small air bubbles of the “Waterbubbles” design.

The movement in the designs and the dark, deep colors combined with the light and red tones perfectly accentuate the feeling of the wild sea for me, and I could imagine more sea creatures suddenly appearing between the waves, or maybe even a sunken Viking ship.
(and yes, sometimes my imagination gets the better of me ;-))

The Stormy Waters collection currently consists of four designs in blue-green tones combined with red.
They are suitable for extraordinary designed home décor items such as carpets, bedding or wallpaper.

And before I forget, the special thing about this collection is that all the designs are hand-drawn repeats. Which in this case means drawn with a black ink pen on a square piece of paper, cut and reassembled, drawn again and then vectorized and colored.

The designs are currently available in my Spoonflower Shop, but can also be licensed.
They are available as vector graphics and can therefore be varied in size and color.
